Common “Triggers” of Cold Sores:
Decreased immune system (hence “cold” sore; often when someone is sick they develop a cold sore shortly after because their immune response is lowered
Ultraviolet light (excessive tanning in the sun- wear chopstick with spf can help)
Common cold, flu or feverish illness
Emotional stress or exhaustion
Exposure to extreme temperatures
fatigue/exhaustion
Pregnancy/menstruation
A knock on the lips or face
An injury to the mouth, surgical operation or dental treatment.
cold sores are contagious, and can be carried in saliva, along with the cold sore/blister, fluid.
