Should I get the flu shot?
And, Does the flu shot get you sick? First and foremost, I just received my flu shot. About 24 hours later, I came down with mild cold symptoms (weakness, sneezing, runny nose, etc). How depressing!
SO, did the flu shot get me sick?
NOO! The flu shot DOES NOT give you the flu. IN FACT, it strengthens your immune system! It is important to first understand what the flu shot is. The flu, like the common cold, is a virus, but one who’s symptoms are much, much worse. The flu shot is a dead virus. When administered, it tricks your body in to building NATURAL antibodies, JUST as if a live virus was trying to take over. So when I felt a little weak, with mild symptoms, it was because my body was starting a massive battle against a foreign invader. Only this time, the virus was dead, and never had the multiply and attack. This in turn, took a lot of my body’s natural energy, creating mild cold symptoms. In turn, I now have antibodies to protect me from the more common flu strains going around. This is also why you want to take the flu shot as early as possible when you are healthy! Don’t wait until its winter and everyone around you is sick!!!
So, did the flu shot get me sick? No, it made me stronger,so while I was expending all my energy, I felt a little weaker.
I would take that any day over the true flu, which can knock you completely out of commission for 1-2 weeks.
And can a select few people have reactions to it, yes, of course. If you have any questions about the flu shot, consult your physician for more information.
